About me
Anne-Chantal Fontaine, trad. a.
- I have been certified by Québec’s Order of translators (OTTIAQ) since 2010, and have been practicing my craft with passion since 1997.
- I have had a non-linear career path. Before becoming a translator, I worked in other fields: journalism, teaching and editing. Each step has contributed to my knowledge and brought me to examine the French language from all angles.
- I have a Master’s degree in French and a teaching certificate, and I am always ready to enrol in additional classes and training to help me refine and perfect my translation practice.
- I strive to remain informed about developments in my field. I have learned to use countless tools that help me offer quality translation services: terminology databases, translation memories, specialized dictionaries, software and lexicons.
- Over the years, I have developed a client base across Canada (Québec, Ontario, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia), most notably in the fields of museum studies, heritage and public policy.
In ancient Greek, the meaning of logos contained elements of both ‘reasoned discourse’ and ‘animating principle.’ This complex word, so esteemed by the logicians, expresses the value of a well-translated text: persuasive and lively, as well as coherent and rational. Is translation simply substituting words from one language to another? No, that would be too simplistic… To translate is to capture the spirit of the word, without betraying its deep meaning.
